KanEng/Paprican overcomes roll barring/corrugations

New software and equipment from Kan Eng Ltd., Montreal, Quebec, under licence from Paprican, solves the problem of calendar roll barring and the forming of shiny stripes/corrugations on paper rolls.

The monitoring/control software and corrective grinding wheel equipment which remedies the regenerative vibration phenomenon that causes calendar roll corrugations (barring) was developed by Paprican Research - and is now available through KanEng Ltd.

Software and sensors detect and measure vibrations and barring periods on the paper caliper and nip points. It adjusts the device for the right geometry, measures the roll, and records the profiles and all required information for follow-up.

Fixed wheel grinding equipment can then be employed until barring disappears and standard grinding is then applied for final roll finishing. PI
