HarbisonWalker offering high performance refractory product

Pittsburg, Pennsylvania - HarbisonWalker International’s latest THORBIDE family of brick has been developed specifically for the toughest of service environments where the ultimate in resistance to alkali attack and protection from build ups are required to maintain stable operation.

The THORBIDE family targets processes utilizing high levels of alternate fuels or raw materials where aggressive alkali attack is the primary wear mechanism. In addition, the physical properties of THORBIDE provide superior strength for mechanically stressed areas, making it perfect for application in rotary kilns and stationary vessels.

THORBIDE products are aimed to improve plant operations, specifically targeting areas of build-up and alkali attack.

THORBIDE brick provide outstanding resistance to the toughest of service environments where mechanical stresses limit the service life of traditional 50% alumina brick.

Benefits of THORBIDE products also include: increased resistance to erosion from dust and clinker particulates; low porosity to limit infiltration of alkali compounds and other volatile chemicals and resulting in a longer life; and superior performance where temperature cycles are experienced.

The THORBIDE product line includes:

*THORBIDE HR – a 50% alumina brick with a moderate level of silicon carbide. Offers low porosity, high resistance to abrasion, and passes industry standard alkali resistance testing.

*THORBIDE XR – a 50% alumina brick with a high level of silicon carbide. Offers low porosity, high resistance to abrasion, and passes industry standard alkali resistance testing.

*THORBIDE UR – an alumina brick with optimal addition of silicon carbide which has extremely high resistance to abrasion, low porosity, and passes industry standard alkali resistance testing. THORBIDE UR provides outstanding thermal shock resistance and outstanding cold crushing strength.

HarbisonWalker International is the largest supplier of refractory products and services in the United States. The company’s international network spans North America, Europe, and Asia, with 19 manufacturing plants, 30 global sourcing centers, and technology facilities in both the United States and China.
