Voith SmoothRun bearing damping system ups capacity 15%

Graz, Austria-based Andritz will upgrade two of its screw presses at Metsä Board’s Kaskinen mill in Finland. Start- up is scheduled for 1Q19.

Heidenheim, Germany-based Voith says its new SmoothRun hydropneumatic bearing damping system for winders effectively reduces vibrations occurring during the winding process allowing higher operating speeds and better winding results. Over-all, capacity increases of up to 15% are possible. The compact upgrade solution is suitable for both Voith and Jagenberg two-drum winders.

In conventional winders without special damping, vibrations can occur at higher production speeds for certain paper grades. Such vibrations can impair winding quality and the winding process resulting in the production speed and acceleration rates being reduced below the winder’s maximum capability.

SmoothRun improves the winding results and reduces the overall mechanical stress on the machine.
