Andritz RB to Smurfit Kappa Nettingsdorf

Graz, Austria-based Andritz will supply Smurfit Kappa’s kraftliner mill in Nettingsdorf, Austria, with a HERB recovery boiler and a pre-evaporation plant. The order is part of the company’s Future Energy Project which involves the implementation of sustainable energy initiatives at the mill. Start-up of the system is scheduled for mid-2019 and mid- 2020, respectively.

Andritz HERB recovery boilers for kraft mills are designed to achieve a high power:heat ratio to maximize both chemical recovery and energy generation from the recovery process. The boilers feature a unique vertical air system to minimize air emissions.

As a boost to energy efficiency, the pre-evaporation plant uses Andritz’s proven mechanical vapor recompression (MVR) technology to increase the mill’s evaporation capacity. Andritz says that MVR units operate with very low specific energy consumption and also produce clean condensate that will be re-used in other mill processes to minimize consumption of fresh water.
