Smurfit Kappa upgrades Facture mill to meet kraftliner demand

Smurfit Kappa Group PLC (SKG) reported that an upgrade of the mill in Facture, South West France, was completed in March after a threeweek shutdown during which it implemented a new pulp washing line and completely overhauled the black liquor recovery boiler.

SKG next plans improvements to paper machine No. 5 commencing in 2019. This programme will increase its production capacity of white top kraftliner from 174,000 to 220,000 tonnes/year and further enhance the quality of this premium product.

Premium white top kraft paper, which is made from virgin fibre, is also suitable for the high-specification digital printing used to make brands stand out on the shelf.

The Facture mill has been producing kraft paper since 1928 and is part of SKG’s global network of paper mills that are all connected through a single, optimized supply chain system.
