FROM THE NEWS DESK: Board changes at SFI
The Sustainable Forestry Initiative Inc. (SFI) has two new officers and one new board member: Mark Rodgers is Board Chair; Guy Gleysteen is Vice Chair; Laura Downey is a new member in the social chamber.
Rodgers, president and CEO, Habitat for Humanity Canada originally joined the SFI Board in 2013 and is the first SFI Chair to come from a communitybuilding organization, others having represented economic or conservation interests. Rodgers has been involved with Habitat for Humanity since 2000.
Gleysteen, SVP, Time Inc. and SFI Vice-Chair, became a board member in 2015 and has played a major role in founding the SFI Forest Partners Program to help brand owners support responsible supply chains and landowners to fulfil their certification objectives.
Downey is Executive Director, Kansas Assn. for Conservation and Environmental Education, and Project Learning Tree (PLT) Education Operating Committee Co-Chair. PLT is an environmental education program that uses trees and forests to increase youth understanding of the environment and actions they can take to conserve it. PLT was recently incorporated into the SFI Program.
The2017 SFI Annual Conference is scheduled for Ottawa, ON, September 27-29, 2017.
