MTr Martco services PM rolls

MTR Martco, Middletown, OH, has a roll service center to rebuild and regrind rolls and roll cores as well as make virtually any repair needed.

In addition to making new rolls and shells, repairs include: close-tolerance roll grinding and turning; dynamic balancing; rebuilding suction rolls; repair or replacement of journals; rebuilding crown compensating rolls; replacing bearings and housings; repairing roll heads.

Because turn-around time is important, MTR Martco's high-capacity shop has two Farrel, two-wheel, roll grinders capable of grinding rolls up to 38 in. diameter and 256 in. long. Both have beltgrinding attachments and variablecrown roll driving units.

MTR Martco has special expertise in grinding crowned, concave and controlled crown rolls using a computerized caliper to verify a roll's profile. Following the refurbishing or rebuild, a full precision inspection is done and a detailed report showing the actual contour and T.I.R. for each of the ground surfaces is prepared. The report and its specifications are delivered along with the finished roll.

If a customer is within 500 miles of the service centre, MTR Martco sends its own trucks to pick up rolls and return them after they are refurbished.

MTR Martco technicians are experts at refurbishing paper machine rolls from calendar to couch in a wide variety of materials including chilled cast iron, steel and SST, forged steel, brass, ceramic, rubber, composite covers and tungsten carbide.
