Hood Container to upgrade St. Francisville

Hood Container Corp., a producer of semi-chemical corrugating medium, will install new equipment at its St. Francisville, LA-based paper mill. The twophase project includes a press section on the H1 paper machine and an OCC recycling plant.

The new press section will allow the mill to increase containerboard production while the recycling plant will support the increased production.

The company acquired the St. Francisville paper mill from Amzak Capital Management LLC in October 2015. The acquisition complemented Hood Container’s corrugating-medium mill in New Johnsonville, TN, and its converting operations across the Southeast US. The Hood Container Corp. was established in July 2012 with its purchase of the New Johnsonville mill from International Paper.

To secure the project, the State of Louisiana offered Hood an incentive package that includes a modernization tax credit of $640,000. The company is also expected to utilize the state’s quality jobs and industrial tax exemption programs.

As part of the upgrades, Hood Container will retain 237 jobs at St. Francisville and create 10 new direct jobs with an average salary of $51,450 plus benefits. It is also estimated the project will result in 30 new indirect jobs as well as 80 construction jobs.
